USSF D2 Table Update
NSC Minnesota vs. Puerto Rico
- Result: 3-1 (Puerto Rico)
- Thoughts: Puerto Rico is the last team to kick off their 2010 campaign as they dropped Minnesota 3-1 this past Wednesday night. The Islanders jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead by the 17th minute and put it in cruise control after that.
AC St Louis vs. Portland
- Result: 3-0 (Portland)
- Full Match Reports: St Louis and Portland
- Thoughts: Portland rolled in their second home match in five days as two goals by Ryan Pore put the game out of reach. AC St. Louis is still winless after three matches and only own goal at this point.
AC St Louis vs. Vancouver
- Result: 1-0 (Vancouver)
- Full Match Reports: St Louis and Vancouver
- Thoughts: St. Louis continued to struggle in their weekend fixture against Vancouver, who now sit atop the NASL division after 3 matches. More worisome than the results for AC St. Louis at this point is the lack of offensive power. They have only 1 goal in 4 matches. However, they return home next week to face off against Baltimore which is the only other pointless teams, so something has to give.
Puerto Rico vs. Baltimore
- Result: 3-1 (Puerto Rico)
- Thoughts: Puerto Rico rolled out to their second win in two games to start the season. The scoreline was the same as they first match, 3-1, and the rest of evening went pretty much the same. The Islanders jumped out to a quick lead and used their overall quality to hold the game in check and take home the full points. Baltimore, pointless in two matches now heads out of a 5-game road trip.
Tampa Bay vs. NSC Minnesota
- Result: 1-0 (Minnesota)
- Full Match Reports: Tampa Bay and Minnesota
- Thoughts: The game wasn't explosive and Tampa Bay seemed to control most of the match, however a PK awarded to Minnesota in the 34th minute gave the new club their second win in four matches. Both clubs were reduced to 10 men in the first half following a pushing match, although even this could not open the game up enough to score a goal from open play.
Portland vs. Montreal
- Result: 1-1
- Thoughts: The second largest crowd of the season - 13,034 - saw two of the top teams battle out to a 1-1 draw. Ryan Pore scored again for Portland, his fourth on the season and in three straight games. However, the defending champs equalized on a PK in the 81st minute. These two teams will be battling it out for the season attendance title this year in USSF D2, but even more appear to be capable of strong runs throughout the campaign.
Austin vs. Rochester
- Result: 2-1 (Rochester)
- Thoughts: Austin's strong start to the season came to a halt as the Rhinos put up their first W of the season. Forwards Hoxie and Hamilton gave Rochester enough fire power for the full three points in their third straight road match. Austin returns to action this Wednesday to play an exhibition match against the Haitian national team, will of the proceeds going to the earthquake victims.
Friendly: Carolina vs. Mexican Olympic National Team
- Result: 1-1
- Thoughts: A high profile exhibition match in which the NASL club comes out looking rather sharp. Carolina striker Andriy Budnyy scored on a free kick in the 45th minute to put the Railhawks ahead. Mexico leveled in the 53rd minute as the result of a own goal by Carolina defender Mark Schulte. Goal keeper Nic Platter was the man of the match savings 14 of the 15 shots on goal.
